My Brother and Me: THE SAME AGE, Again

Here's his "Birthday Image." Remember the 12" doll my friend Pete and I modified to "strongly resemble" my bro?--the "Deputy D.A. Kit Davis Action Figure"? Did I share that one here? Anyhow, that's what this gag is predicated on....

My marker work is rusty. A little ragged. Had to get this done in a rush to ship to his courthouse (I love surprising him at work--they x-ray everything before they let it in).

This is our week of age-confluence; we're both 38 for 7 days. Then I surge ahead again and become...32.

Nifty... I used to do a lot of hand made cards for folks... I got a rep at Jostens for doing that kind of thing and it sort of burned me out on it. I still do it for family, or in an emergency situation when we don't have a card and need one fast.

Every once and a while I think to myself "the greeting card biz could be a lot of fun"... I wonder if it is...

Marty, your marker work is awesome. I love how you work all the colors into the flesh tones with bold, but carefully controlled strokes. It brings to mind your "Sweet Lad of Liberty" drawing, but that one was even wilder.

Oh and Happy Birthday to both you and your brother, Marty.

SWEET LAD OF LIBERTY!! Forever at peace may he wave!

Thanks for the birthday wishes, Tom--I loved the e-card!

Rick, I know exactly what you're saying about the cards for family--I've backed off a lot over the last few years. My brother is a special case because he makes a point to ask specifically for a drawing as his bday gift. Usually the most I will do is a quick sketch inside of a store-bought card, and even then, not often. Except for Blair. I still draw her lots of cards.

The greeting card biz could be great--I still think there's so much you could do with an e-card. Maybe that should be our next business endeavor. Remember Allyn Welty from Sony? Her dad was a big-wig greeting card exec at Hallmark...and I know one of the artists at Suzy Zoo--take a look at those cards: Suzy gives credit to the individual card artist, which is cool. My friend liked it OK, but she aspires to bigger things. And lately they were having a hard time business-wise...

OK, that's more than you ever wanted to hear about greeting cards.
