First Run Version-1934-of King Kong found in London Theatre

Click the headline. Cool article. Of course there's a lot of buzz about this maybe containing the Spider Pit sequence. If such an animal ever existed.

Fish Dude

I started this guy on Monday morning and got pretty far with him as the bus ride was extra long.  Snow was coming down and brought traffic to a crawl.  Freezing temps during the day made the roads icy and I-5 was a parking lot going home.  After attempting to ride the bus home for a while and got off as the bus was headed onto the freeway and walked back to spend the night at the office.  It turned out to be a really good choice as I've heard horror stories of 5-10 commutes home (as Ronnie about that).  There was food, heat and a couch, as well as Netflix, so I watched War of the Gargantuas and slept pretty well, all things considered.

Gun Nose - Josef Rubinstein / Johnny B. Gerardy

In my quest to provide transparency on The Gun Nose Chronicles as it moves through the pipeline, at least for TAG members, here is a look at the story writ by me, penciled by Josef Rubinstein, and inked by Johnny B. Gerardy. Emily Bolles is coloring it even as we speak. Sorry about the grey lettering. It'll be white over the colored pages, but this is just a first peek.

I should spend more than 2 seconds sketching Matthau someday.

Trying to do something Bobby Chiu like

It's tough. I can't figure out, even when he explains settings, how he is getting his brush to lay down his gradual build up.

ReMasterwork

This is a "ReMasterwork"... our fantastic "workforce culture" people go to a bunch of thrift shops and pick up crappy old prints, photos and other images.  Through a Yankee Swap method all the participants pick out their image to remaster.  Then we are given some time to tinker with the image (no scanning and reworking on a computer... this is all hand manipulated directly onto the 'original') and bring it back to the office to share.  This is my entry into the event.  I think it should be pretty obvious what I added to it.  I only used 3 pens... brown, black and a gel white.  It worked out pretty well, I think.

Rutan Voyager Replica at SeaTac

Drew this while waiting at the airport.

The REAL Green Lantern trailer

Hector Hammond, Abin Sur, Killowog, Tomar Re, Carol Ferris, Sinestro but nothing on Katma Tui. She would be a nice addition when showing the GL Corps but until Sinestro goes rouge she can't replace him, And no Guardians shown either.

Dudles

Weirdness:

My Colors, Dave Garcia's artwork ... still teasing on the 3rd Page ...

I MADE A FEW CHANGES ... Mostly in the last three panels on Page 2.

Dave Garcia did the pencils, inks, and letters. My colors. The third page is still being inked ...

If anyone knows an active editorial connection at Dark Horse, I'd like to have it. I need to begin finding a home for Gun Nose Chronicles ... so far, Top Shelf has said they'd like to see some .jpgs to determine if it fits their portfolio of titles ...

Jack Kirby: Storyteller

About 60 minutes of artists talking about Kirby. I think Neal Adams gives some of the best notes about his art.
Click the headline

Click Headline to See a Stop Motion match of Jonny Quest Opening

It's a work in progress. No video as yet. But he does some ingenious material use and model making on a budget.
I got it from Terry Beatty.

See Julie Brooke's Ceramics This Weekend ...

Julie is Tom Carroll's wife. She's a top ceramic artist (potter) and her work and the work of all the Potters' Guild members will be on display this weekend at Spanish Village (by the SD Zoo entrance and the big carousel). Sale runs 10am - 4pm, Nov. 13 & 14. I've used the sale's postcard as the visual. You can't imagine the kinds of ceramics that are there, functional and for display. It's an amazing thing.

Random Meeting Sketch

Found someone elses' spider in my notepad

Pulled these sketches from a mostly blank notepad from Heavy Iron. Someone else did the spider sketch. I'm not sure who the artist was. I did the droopy alien.

Sketchtheatre from the comicon

Click headline to watch me sketch my Harryhausen inspired wolf-demon thing.
The youtube clip is from the book I'm reading on digital comic art. Go to the link to get the psd path tool if you want it.
http://freddieart.com/QuickTools/index.php?page=detail&get_id=1&category=2

I'm on chapter 8. I've never read a how to book that made me so chomp the bit to create in the same way.

I'm on Chapter 10. Chapter 11 ids the inking chapter. Then the Chapter 13 wrap up. I'll be done tonight. But I can tell you now it was worth the 20 bucks I spent. Great organization and production tips for comic strip work.

Click the Headline and watch Stan Lee looking at Jack Kirby Fantastic Four art with his notes in the margins

Added another line art straight from a ball point.

Thursday, November 04, 2010

An interesting result

I did all the line art on it's own level. Then selected the line art and turned that selection into a work path, tolerance setting at 2.5. And look at that clean line when I did a path fill. I can't ink like that. But now I can! This has a few things I'm going to adjust- contrast, some tangents. But that line quality, I'm pretty happy.
One of the main things that has to be watched for when using this as a clean up. It's basically making curves out of averaging toward straightness. Curves can be straightened out and  become bad contour info. Like the helmet contour on the top of the guy's head. That's too straight. I need to show the original line art as well to show the diff.
One of the edit techniques is to use the pen selection tools to pull the nodes around on the work path if you don't like the line somewhere.
I added the non path converted line art. Bumply and irregular.

I get the new mold made for my partial plate next Thursday. I'm not going to cut my hair until I have my new teeth. Would you like to see a recent picture of my hair?

Joe Cesario Colors Ellis Goodson

Worth checking out -- the Gun Nose Chronicles project crawls slowly toward the finish line ... And yes, that's him spelling out G-U-N ("space") N-O-S-E ...

These colors are by Joe Cesario ... one of the fellas I worked with at Interplay ...

Rough of a potential drawing, not sure how I feel about it.

My Tues contribution

Big City Doodle

I woke up one day and realized I wanted to draw windows, lots of windows, lots and lots and lots of windows. Windows to infinity. I doodled little rectangle after little rectangle, for hours. It was hypnotic. I think I'm over it now, but maybe not...
