ECCC wrap up part one

I'm hoping Tom and Marty get on here soon and post loads of pictures.  I'm pretty tired, so I will be brief... Marty and I did well.  Marty did particularly well doing lots of drawing of people and pets(!).
I sold some comics, although not as many as I would have like.  Marty and I did a Post Mortem and we have a lot of analysis and ideas for next year.  I'll share some of our observations once I'm a bit more rested, less busy and my computer is functional again.  We had a great visit with Marty, Tom and Patty!  Miss you guys already!

Me and the REAL Godzilla

The Man WHO IS Godzilla. (1954-1973) The LEGEND Haruo Nakajima. Best suit actor in the long history of the franchise who played Godzilla during the CLASSIC Showa era. At Monsterpalooza 2014 in Burbank this weekend.

Anatomy and a Gorilla

Someone must want to sell me something.

Got it off Tumblr.
Probably only a 3d file.
No"garage kit" ambitions to it.

Mixed MODOK Metaphor

And that's it for my March MODOKs. The fat lady is singing in case it is not clear. Or is it Marvel's Valkyrie as MODOK? Oh, the levels. Not quite how I wanted to use Illustrator as an inking tool, but good practice.

Say, did you ever notice how much opera lends itself to comics?

Paint a doodle

Work allows me to go back to the maintenance shack and get a little sketching done. Then scan in photoshop, dabble a bit and stay almost even with the idea of March of the Robots. I'll try and finish strong. Like Montag with his Modoks.

Enjoy the Coffee

Wish I could be there. Enjoy the weekend.
Hope you guys move some books and make some friends.
Talk to C.B. Cebulski, Marty. Tell him you want to collaborate with me on at least one Marvel project.
Your art should seal the deal.
I may be doing sketches on Free Comic Book day for a credit at a comic book store.
I think I want the complete Witzend.

Feeling Peckish

Seen them all of course.
Other than Beneath The planet of the Apes,
I'm as wild about his picks as he is.
They strike me as very thoughtful choices.

Second to last MODOK -- I promise

Unless it is the last one. I am unable to do backgrounds or get myself to break away from the source MODOK for the chair design. Ball point pen on gray paper, then Photoshop. This will be going up on Marchmodokmadness on Wednesday.

Replacing Psychotronic Magazine in my heart - Horrorpedia

Psychotronic Magazine. About the only reason I would visit magazine racks way back when. Mag died in 2004. 10 years ago. Long time. This web mag has the same sort of diversity, clean design, lots of angles on the different subjects.

Is this a Frazetta arm?

Looks like a minaret or something in the background
 Hi Norm!

Stupid Comics

While browsing a website called "Stupid Comics" I found this comic cover just for Ellis.  I wish I could get ahold of the actual issue and read the story.  I especially want to know why there's still red on the cover.  Red turned to green, so did green turn to red also?

A page from Marty's "CHUBBY CHEEKERS"

I'm working with Marty on his book. Mostly cleaning it up while he works on other stuff. He wanted me to post a page while he was off on his east coast sojourn the next few days.

My convention banner has arrived!

I have to say I'm pretty jazzed about the way this came out.  It's big and bold and clean and bright.  Printing has come a loooooong way!  Now I just need my books and my table mate to arrive!

Found my calling

This MODOK went in MarchMODOKmadness yesterday. I think I have one more still in me.

Monday is my Friday

I'll add another couple of robots on my "weekend" of Tuesday and Wednesday.

Still digging the job by the way.
The Tuesday sketch. Also done in the shack
And this one, which just looks like it was drawn in a shack.
Something Jetson-ey. From the shack. Ballpoint and photoshop

Hulk as a Dwarf

I looked it up. Created by Kirby and Lee.
But I associate the Hulk with the early Ditko stuff like this.

JMG added: Here's the animated version of that story aired in 1966.
from The Incredible Hulk #6 1963. Ditko drew him so weird.

Also this Pin Up showing the many versions of the Hulk
from artists and art combinations who had tackled the Jade Giant. Featured artists are Jack Kirby, Dick Ayers, Steve Ditko,  Bill Everett,  Mike "Mickey Demeo" Esposito, Joe Sinnott, Marie Severin, John Romita, Herb Trimpe, John Buscema, John Verpoorten, and Gil Kane.

Kong....KING KONG

A series of my Kong Collection, Limited edition of 25 garage kit. What's great is the multi segmented  aspect of this kit. Arms at the wrist, elbow, bicep, knees, and neck.  And the whole collection at the bottom, All sculpted by Takabe. The Billiken Kong is by Hama.

Three fer Wednesday

Going to use Marty's Ambassador for the color picker in photoshop when I refine these.

Two fer Tuesday

My two favorite panels from Chubby Cheekers. Not yet "colored." And maybe a little too crowded...(as usual!).

UPDATE: It's a '56 Nash Ambassador!

Rick's MODOK WIP

I looked to the original Kirby drawings for inspiration.

March of the Robots Modok

I did a tutorial video as I drew this. If it came out alright I'll post a link.
I'd post it but the audio was awful. Too faint.

Notebook paper March of the Robots 11. Gotta do at least one catch up tomorrow. I should do 20 so i can just post the rest of them. Robotically.

Taking an Oil Painting Class

Started an oil painting class today. Messy but fruitful. It's been a very long time since I dabbled in oils. Hoping for some progress in the next 6 weeks

PB is officially announced!

The marketing push has begun for the "full game" of Polar Bowler.  Polar Bowler 1st Frame has been out for a year now as a free app for playing 10 pin bowling with a bear in an innertube who is shot from a slingshot and can be steered.  With the full game there are loads of unique levels to slide around in to knock over pins in and unique tubes with special abilities.  I did this drawing today and it's already gone live on FB.  The characters in the image above are all WildTangent characters who are in games that we have either released or rereleased since the start of the studio.

WHAT?!!

I can't believe this Tuesday (March 4) went by without even the briefest mention of Jeff's Frozen accomplishments and recognition. Sigh ...

At least we got it right on Facebook.

March Of The Robots

I'm going to do it.
It mentions being an instagram thing..
I can't do instagram so mine will be Tumblr posts.

Using all photoshop for these.
Trying a lot of selection tool drawing directness.
Number 3
Based on my Vado
Thumbnail with a date with photoshop later this evening. Based on my misery with snow shoveling the past two days.
I'm having a great time drawing with the selection tool.
Right on top of my scrappy, thumbnails, leaving them behind as a whiff of texture.
I may be working on a look that's just right for me.
I had fun with this.
But it is a mess.
Sometime later today I will illustrate the cattle mutilation mystery.
 Selection tool drawing.
Did it quick. I wanted to get a jog in before going to work. Which is where I'm headed now
March 7. It Conquered The World. And then had its eye put out with a blow torch
I'll start a new thread Tuesday. This is number 8.
I'll do 11 for the last March of The Robots thread entry
