On the Loose!

I'm on a posting binge! Both here and at the TAG North blog I'm posted new drawings. I've even posted on my own blog (after not posting anything on it for about a year!). Click on the title of this post to see that one.

This is another bus drawing... pencil sketch first, then ink, then eraser.

Doodle Dump

Some CNN based caricatures in there.

Old Hitchcock Caricature

The JPG is named Gary Seven and of course that is wrong. That was Robert Lansing. Warren Stevens was in Forbidden Planet blowing up his brain on the alien brain tool. This caricature was based on a season one episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents.

Aarron Bros 1 cent sale starts Dec 26th

I got an ad in the mail today from Aarron Bros plugging that they are starting their ususal buy-one-frame-get-the-next-one-for-1-cent sale the day after Christmas. They are extending the same deal to canvases as well. AB jacks up the prices on their frames pretty high to begin with, but still it's worth checking out if you have some stuff to frame. It's the canvas deal that is making me think it's worth a trip. I assume it's happening at most of their stores.

As a side note, one part of the ad says "buy/get any artist for a penny stock up and save!" It looks like it meant to say Artist Canvas... some kind of typo... or they are selling artists, too. If so, I wonder how they determine the "equal or lesser value" of one artist over another.

Rubinstein's Gun Nose Roughs ...

I wanted to post something pre holidays. So I thought of Joe Rubinstein. He has finished rough pencils for his three page story in "Gun Nose Presents" and has embarked on turning them into finished pencils prior to inking 'em up. I thought I'd share the work at this stage 'cuz it's interesting to see such. The essence of TAG ... ;-) Joe Staton is working on his three-page segment, too, and I'm gathering visual concepts for my four-pager.

Happy holidays everyone!!

Sleeping Beauty Color

Yuck. Frame grab from my DVD on the right, jpg from Amazon showing alleged color 'restoration" on sleeping beauty on the left. It looks more like they did the crudest imaginable level and contrast cranking. Super saturated is rarely good.

70 Minute Phantom Menace review

Explaining exactly what makes Phantom Menace so bad. And it's not all JarJar's fault. Here's the first 10 minutes. The guy's pretty funny.

My Hair has gotten long

I looked at myself and thought, "Beatle haircut." But which Beatle?

Ringo's was always the most lustrous.

By the way, have you all heard about the Frazetta museum controversy? Click title for link to video about it.

Gun Fighter

No one in Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford wore the traditional wide brimmed cowboy hat. So I drew this Gunsmoke looking guy as I watched it. Good movie and photos of the era probably show the exact style of hat they are wearing. The wide brimmed hat is probably a cow herding, farmer innovation.

Creepshow

Pretty good E G Marshall. Not so good Fritz Weaver

In light of what Ellis is doing with Gun Nose and letter forms ...

In light of what Ellis is doing with Gun Nose and letter forms ... here is my new favorite video. I've always loved Mousse T. and Emma Lanford, but hadn't seen this video until this a.m. Thought I'd share it ... Very fun!!

Comics Day!

I did two guest spot comics for my pal Ricky Garduno on his site Dumm Comics! One is on the site, and the other is on my blog!

Here are the links:

Comic One!

Comic Two!

Here is my rough for the first comic. I did something a little backwards this time, roughed it out on the computer in Photoshop, then printed it out and inked it on another piece of paper using a light table. Crazy, no?

The only big difference is I cut out the last line by Ricky's request. He's right, works better that way.

A New Instructional Video for Red Dead Redemption.

A first from Rockstar, but not the last. They're actually educating the buying public and the sales channel about what kind of game Red Dead Redemption is. Enjoy, especially you, Mr. Buncake ... ;-)

Release The Kraken!

Kraken is a bit Rankoresque. Not a bad thing.

Glen Orbik click for website

I've linked the title to Glen Orbik's main website. I've taken quick sketch with the man and he is a modern master.
He learned from Fred Fixler, taking over his classes at the place I went to,
http://www.calartinst.com/
Fixler learned from Frank Reilly. So what is taught could be called the Reilly method.
Jeff Watts, Marty Davis, Jeff Wand, Jeremy Lipking, Tony Pro lots of really good artists have benefited from this course of study.
Anyway, check out his amazing work.

I fixed the broke link issue. Definitely surf around on the site

The Work Has Just Begun ... But It Feels Nice!!

Title takes you to the Publisher's site.
The deal is pretty much done. Contracts are in the mail for signing and returning. Square One Publishers are going to publish "Batter! Broil!! Baste!!! The Comic Book Creators Cookbook" and I'm pretty excited about it. All of you creators who have provided recipes will now be contacted and we'll begin crafting what will be on your page or pages and what it/they will look like. The finish date is April 15th and it looks like the books will be on the shelf by the time Comic Con 2010 hits. Woo hoo ... Just thought y'all should know.

Thanks to you all for the invite.

Thanks to you all for inviting me to TAG. And thanks to Tom Carroll for getting me set up. I'll post some more images in the coming days and weeks. Here's a little diddy I penciled and inked (and lettered) myself. Though I've been an inker/embellisher for fifteen years, I do get to pencil from time to time. And I receive work, on occasion, as a storyboard and concept artist for film as well.

Done for Sketch Theatre

Upcoming Sketch Theatre episode.

Kali put the word in for me so I could do a sketch for sketch theatre. Click title for a link.

It's not there yet. But this is the sketch I did. Can't wait to see it all sped up.
I felt some pressure and it's not as good as it could be but I'm going to make a lot of edits as I turn it into a digital painting.

The thing underneath is sketches , very loose, looking to build from accidents. Here is a demo from the Massive Black guys showing Alchemy. A software , drawing program that encourages using accidents

I'd like to invite Johnny B. Gerardy to Join TAG ...

The top pic is the first page of "Gun Nose Presents," penciled by Johnny and inked by Tony DeZuniga ... The second is a recent sample; Johnny inking a piece by Superman pencil artist Kerry Gamill.

Hope you agree to let the fella in.

Google and the street view of my Parent's house

I thought Google street view was just about major cities and larger streets. This view of my folks home is residential Oklahoma and couldn't be more nondescript. Seriously completest of Google

Sultan

More bus drawings. I had to skew the close up a bit in Photoshop in order to make it look right. Not researched at all... total invention, which means the costume is probably wildly wrong.

Daily Gut Guy

The zombie type on the left started as an attempt to invent a beautiful high cheekboned female face.
The square female face below is a quick note while watching the show COMMUNITY

In ten minutes you'll be smoking in Hell!

The face top left came about from sketching while watching VENOM. 80's movie with Oliver Reed and Klaus Kinski. Even though it fails to look like Kinski, I still enjoy the notes I made on the drawing. It's vague Kinski and might prompt some other character design notion.

Red Dead Redemption - "I Am John Marston" Trailer

Flash Boards

This is probably a good start. Lots of effects. Need to produce a couple of sound files eventually.
Sequence reads top to bottom vs left to right. I did them on index cards.
