Sketch for Sports Commentary Piece



I'll be posting tomorrow, too, but here is a composition I'm working on that feeds both my sports and commentary sides: Barry Bonds' quest for Aaron's HR record. The finished sketch will probably have more "stuff" in it, but the basics are there. My goal is to render this in color, but with a goal that it will register just as well in black and white ...

Very cool, I notice you took down your comment about the image not loading. I think Blogspot was probably being attacked again.,. Don't know for sure but i was getting flake behavior last night into today. You've got a lot of good symbol stuff going on. I really like the hypo. But I want the feet to agree with the twist of the torso. I don't feel the character olooks like he's doing enough twisting to get that out of line. Easy to edit in photoshop to see if you like flipping it across the Y

Great suggestion! I am also bugged by the angle of the lower legs and will work on getting it working before moving along with the render. I'm also going to try a version with a straight on view of Bonds' head ... lowered and glowering (to perhaps better convey that he's not an innocent victim of this "crucifixion").

Actually, on second thought, I'm probably going to square up Bonds' body and his head to he has as formalized a posture at the symbols he is associated with. That will allow me to put various other touches into the scene more effortlessly, like I.V. tubing, shunts, etc. I've been looking at some of Brom's work and some of his figures are set up that way ...
