a blog of note...

Here's a blog with a bunch of interviews with different character designers:
http://characterdesign.blogspot.com/
I haven't had much of a chance to read the interviews, but a skimming of the art makes it a must-go-to site.

It also has a bunch of very nice looking sketchbooks for sale:

That character designer web site is a real treasure house of cool drawings. I have to fight to not feel overwhelmed by how much talent there is in the world.

You got that right... part of it is very insperational and part of it is depressing... some of these folks have so much talent, and no doubt many of them are much younger than you and I!

So, when can we expect a 2X8 comic strip from you?

I was particulary taken by Steve Lambe's stuff. Because of his retro-looking style I thought he might actually be an old guy from the fifties, but no, he graduated from college in 1999. Was it Kricfalusi that brought that look back or was he just one of many people practicing it at the time?

I am considering giving that 2x8 thing a try. I think it's really cool, but I'm not sure it's going to be a comfortable way for me to work. How about you?

Oh wait, I found your Creeple 2x8 after going from here to Robotopia to RickArt. I like this blog stuff but I'm getting a little dizzy link-chasing. It's like attending a party hosted at three different houses on the block.

The first two Creeple strips already have me hooked. They are really fun-looking.

Thanks Tom! I really have to fight the temtation to color them in more... I would never get anywhere with it if I did any more work on it than I do.

Besides, I think it's pretty fresh and immediate the way I'm doing it now.

It's funny, the whole synchronicity of it all. Friday, a guy at work was directing us all to that sketchbook page suggesting we all should buy the Ryan Woodward book.
I guess the appeal of this Blog stuff is the ease. No FTP problems, you aren't being tempted to tart up the site with Flash Dreamweaver Imageready etc. Post a picture, write a blurb, move on. Someone will ruin it of course. I don't know if you guys have done the random grazing through other Blogs, but one cancer is the comments page can be targeted by spammers. What a weird place to try and place ads.

Yeah, the one down side so far is that I'm recieving a ton of spam through my email address... I have to assume that it's becuase I've started blogging. Otherwise, it's been great, especially for me as I'm a bit more cut off from the old gang than most.
