Ron vs. Stumptown

T.A.G. brethren (and sistren), I had the pleasure of hosting our esteemed colleague Ronald Thompson yesterday. I say hosted, but it's Ron who drove down and treated me to lunch. I reciprocated with an invitation to sip some coffee and do some sketching.

We hit the Stumptown Coffee on 3rd, just down from Voodoo Donuts (not bad when they're fresh, but a kinda skeevy crew that, the Voodoo folk). Ron started with this one....
He recorded my reaction on the page. But it worked. Looked at this gem he scratched in response to my provocation....
(Note coffee stains for added texture...hey, they're authentic!)

Ron did these in run-o-the-mill lead pencil, but when I scanned them I used Beata's (or Candice Colbert's?) line-art Pho-Sho trick to recolor the lines (I chose espresso bean brown--good choice, huh?), and dropped it on a background of a creamy milk-foam tint. What do you think?

Excellent. I like the line being a color. Makes it warm and welcoming. Great color choices.

Like the Guatemala link too. I'd like to live there (if they've taken care of the malaria and communist problems.)

Coffee. My new favorite coffee is the Dunkin Donuts basic blend. Don't knock it until you've tried it.

Great drawings as always, Ron.

I haven't had VooDoo Dounuts, but I know of them. I'm fond of Seattle's Top Pot Dounuts myself.

Not a coffee guy... I dig chai tea and sadly I haven't found anything better than Tazo from Starbucks.

Marty, I thought you had already departed to CA... what's the story?

Yes, great drawings Ron. Yeah Marty, when are you moving down here for good? ("For good" being a relative term I guess.)

Dudes! I will be moving down shortly...just as soon as I get out of our Portland apartment lease!

Tom & Rick, I take it you guys like the subtle colorization here? Love to do this for Thompson in the comic book...and yes, I am working on my contribution to our team opus! (and dang it, Tom Moon, you better be contributing something, too!!)

Yes, the colorization is great; marvelous choice.

Marty got a lot of attention from the subjects he was drawing. With their phones, they took pictures of themselves being pen-brushed.

Thank Marty for insisting that all the bricks be rendered.

I like a spicy herbal tea like lemon-ginger or liquorice now and then too.
