Gorgon Almost Done

I overdid it.

She's kinda short. That's why her head's so big. Tried to make her a "Gibson Girl" type.
UPDATE: here's the final--made her taller, saturated armor more, messed with face a little more...etc. Thanks for the help--I needed it!

Looks great!

This came out very well.

None of the weird saturation bumps either. Maybe you did a crop with your preview software and a weird save for the other one.

Great face on the girl. Now that you say Gibson, I see it.

And it's being sold for charity? I'll be curious how much you get. You could get a 1000 on ebay.

Thanks dudes! No, this isn't being sold--it's just being submitted to be considered for acceptance into a charity book. I had to spend a day in Pho-Sho manipulating this--the original marker drawing is no great shakes!

So really, no other comments? Changes? Suggestions? Things that bug? I should have asked this more explicitly in the post....

If you're all about photoshop now, I'd add a layer and play with highlights in a circle that extends from her armor to Medusa's head.

"Mah-doosa!" said like Tony Randall in Dr Lao.

Little "doingers" (Harley Brown term) that make the metal metally.

And since it's photoshop suggestions. Do a layer mask that is for saturation. And paint in slightly subtle ramp ups of saturation in that same circle for interest.

I like your background structure.

Again, photoshop suggestions. Background elements could be painted separate and added as layers at .09 percent transparency and see if you like them. Subtle things in the atmosphere.

I thought you were entirely in wysiwyg mode on this painting. Didn't understand that photoshop was involved.

The Girl reminds me of the short tenure of Debra Winger on Wonder Woman

El, awesome comments--I went back and added more of the enhancements you suggested. Hope they dig it!

I wanted to comment earlier but got pulled away onto something else. I might suggest you add some decoration to the breastplate.

The Gibson girl thing is coming through.

I think the temple on the hill is a good addition. Perhaps an olive tree (maybe without leaves to add to the "monster's lair" kind of feel) or something that's closer in might be nice on the other side. some vegetation or moss on the bricks of the stairs might also give the environment some life.

Came out great!

Xlnt suggestions, Rick--but I lack the 'nads (and time) to slap them in...I'll save them for the poster version!

What about yours? How rolls the bug-mobile? Did you get it in??

I dropped back the left legs and gave Dr. Ocular a bit more attention. I also darkened the cloud cover a bit more. Additionally, I sharpened up the cabbie's stoggy. I turned it in last night. Additionally, I asked for a few more guest passes, which they kindly said would be waiting for me at the con. They are AWESOME folks!
I don't think we will know if we are in the book or not for a while yet (they don't put in everyone), but I'm happy I did the piece. The rules say that you should try to sell prints of the piece at this con, but after that time you can do what you want with it. If it doesn't get into the book then I assume it's fair game.
Tom, are you coming up again for ECCC? If so, you might want to look into getting your pro pass now.

Post the revision Rick. I'd be interested.

I goofed with Marty's painting. Not to improve it, mind you.

Because my color blindness and impatience with masking aren't likely to yield "improvement."

Just me goofing in photoshop. If you want to see it. I'll post it.

Tom Moon said...

Yes, I definitely want to come up again. I'll try and get the ball rolling.

El! POST IT! I wanna see!

Tommy, you gots to come up. We can carpool.

Ok. I'll post it I messed with Ricks too. This is just me not painting but wanting to paint more than I have. I'll post something painted tonight and you guys have fun editing it. Posting yours Marty will be fun because I peushed hues around and since I doon't see hues like the rest of you, it might be interesting.

We will probably get a room at the same place in downtown Seattle just down the block, walking distance from the Convention Center.

Turns out that's not so far from my office now. (1st and Yesler, if you want to look it up)
