Enworld - Did this while I watched Cumberpatch Sherlock.

Had some bookkeeping challenges over my last few pieces. This art cleans off the over payment that occurred a couple of months ago.
Now they can go back to paying me again.
The color will make it apparent the figure with glowing eyes has puppet strings.
Grayscale for the heack of it. Since that is the way I do color. Color the gray value.
Edit- Less strings requested

Just adding something I found on Tumblr for Tom

You've got such a talent for creating a whole world with a few pencil strokes Ellis.

Thanks Tom. At the time I'm doing them, it seems like 1000s of pencil strokes. The main thing is erase. stroke, erase again that gets to you. Vs a rough where the 'mistake ' stays on the page.

Looks o so great! Did I see a notification from Facebook or someplace that you have a painted version of this?? It looked great at thumbnail scale, too!

It will be in color later today. You probably saw me post it on the Frazetta FB page. Got some likes which is always gratifying.
I had an idea after I'm done with my usual job on this. I'm going to put this under a vellum sheet and do it again with the side of the pencil lead to make the tone. Then see where that leads me on a color pass. Just see if the "painting with a pencil" gets me deeper into a digital painting look I want.

You know if seeing my color, your reaction is "Poor Ellis. That color problem." Take a hack at it. Do color your way. I'd be interested. Change the whole scheme, anything you want to do.

Ellz! You are indulgent to suffer my color interventions, seldom tho' they be...hopefully they provides grist for the mill, if nothing else.

And hey--that goes both ways! I love seeing/reading critiques!

I'll try and post an illo I've been on...it's kind of a bust. My aborted Monsters & Dames (not doing it this year since I'm not going).

Marty, you aren't going to Emerald City Comic Con this year? Because Rick is in Germany? We will be up there in any case. Wish we could see you there. Wouldn't be nearly as much fun without you.

Love the Fantastic Planet pic Ellis. Just rented that movie a couple of weeks ago so I could enjoy seeing a good resolution version on my TV at home.

And great coloring job on your illustration.

Nothing is as much fun without Marty. Thanks Tom. I need to put Fantastic Planet in my Netflix queue. I'll probably get Inside Llewen Davis today. Cohen Bros flick I haven't seen. Have to see them all. My dyslexia, I've been internally reading that title as Llewellyn. Extra letters missing and everything.

Tom Moon said...

You are not alone Ellis. Most people I've talked to about the film keep calling it "Llewellyn" Davis.

How I wish I could create a cult classic like "Fantastic Planet" as part of my artistic legacy.

MrGoodson2 said...

Inside Llewyn Davis was pretty good. Very human story that didn't try to hard to tug any strong emotion. It was kind of "Shit happens, most of it sucks, but hey, you're the one that wants to sing." Survival story really, about a very talented guy that just doesn't have the extra that will make it pay.
Great Cohen brother structure and pretty pictures. Would have been nice as reference for my ventriloquist story. Great crowd and spatial arrangements for mightclub entertainment.

You should ride herd on a film make from your great myths Tom. You've got the material. You have to get your best seller out there first. At this point you are only online or in do it yourself binding books, correct? I know it's correct because I'd be first in line if you ever do publish your great stories.

Yeah, it's a bummer about ECCC... I contemplated coming back for it, but what ever I would make would only pay for the trip, I'd miss a bunch of work and I'd have to explain why I'm in WA and not spending any time with my family. I'm hoping to find some conventions here at some point... I know that they happen, so we'll see.

Great work as always, Ellis! This is a pretty cool gig that you have going!

Tom Moon said...

Guess we will all have to come over to Germany for a comic-con! Keep us informed.

MrGoodson2 said...

German Comic Cons. That might be worth a trip. Enjoyed the FB Euro posts Rick.

Tom, if you and Patty are in town for ECCC, we should still grab a bite with Sue and Tommy, if we can all swing it. I got a pass and plan on going for at least a little bit.

Rickart said...

Oh, that's an awesome idea, Ronnie... I'll let Sue know about it!

Tom Moon said...

Yep, we will be there Ronnie! Let me know if you want to meet up and walk around the Con together too.

Surly Bird said...

Yeah, for sure, Tom. It's a lot more fun at those things when you're there with a friend. Marty, Rick, Ellis, Jim, send me a large self-portrait photo file so I can make carboard cut-out standees or something. We'll assemble them around the table when we eat (kidding...sort of ;)).
