He was also a bit grumpy. There was an incident where he ran out of Pepsi during his meal and banged his glass for a refill like he was at Dennys. It was good to see him anyway. Glad he (finally) made it.
Comic-Con is here and we still haven't got a place to meet and eat. I know it's hard to get everyone to agree on a place, so how about this? All of you come over to my place Saturday night after the Con. (I think the doors close around 7:00 that night). I live in Kensington around the Normal Heights area. It's not too far from the Con. We won't have to worry about parking or seating reservations. In honor of the Old Spaghetti factory, I'll cook up a big batch of spaghetti with optional meatballs. We can sit around in my backyard and talk. My wife Patty will be there; bring your family and significant others. Just let me know how many of you are coming so I can buy enough food. RSVP to me at tomandpatty@cox.net and I will send you a map and directions on how to get there. Sound good?
Hey kiddies! Here's the print I'll be selling at the Con this year in lew of an ashcan sketchbook. This is my third foray into digital painting so if you tell me I suck (Ellis) I'll kill you and strip the flesh from your and your family's bones. For those of you coming down to San Diego I'll be in Artist's Alley at DD-12. I'll be next to an over-flowing trash bin and an overweight, out of breath, immobile Klingon family of five who can't traverse the length of the Con without buckling. Oooo, also, I got a new car yesterday. A 2007 Honda Civic Coupe LX. And it's black... like my soul.
Doug T's Mr Black in the video. He apparently was killed by coyotes recently. Great little pet. He liked me because I slipped him some "wet" food every now and then. He was the last of the cat namesakes Doug used dating back to the GEAR comic that became Catscratch.
So is it worth it driving downtown next Wednesday between 3:00 and 8:30 for Professional Badge Pick-Up Only? Does it really save you any time and trouble? Or is it a nightmare, and you may as well just wait until the next day?
This guy is a sad rip-off of Cyclops. But he doesn't shoot beams from his eyes. He shoots them from his chest. Just a modified laser pointer that blinds you. That's all. Must be getting closer to Comic-Con. I'm drawing superheroes...
You guys met Jeff last year at the Con... He was one of the concept artists on Lord of the Rings Online. He has a blog now with some new concepts posted on it... way cool stuff. http://murchiemonster.blogspot.com/
I am TOTALLY going next year. Call it a mid-life crisis but I have already ordered TWO big wheels from Target.com. If anybody is interested in joining me you're welcome. I don't think we'll have space in the van with the kids AND the big wheels but you're welcome to caravan with us. The bummer for next year is that the event has been moved to another location ( proabably due to the damage to the surrounding foliage caused by the spectators) . It would have been fun to ride down Lombard street but maybe they'll find an even crazier one to bomb down. Thinking about wearing the shark costume I wore to my CalArts graduation ceremony.....
Rick you just moved to the Bay Area right????
Easter Day 2008 4:00 pm San Francisco Location:TBA
So what we have here is a Guild Steersman from Dune Messiah... along with his cloud of spice gas and his microphone so folks outside his tank can hear him. He thinks he's a pretty smart guy but everyone around him thinks he's a jerk... really, that's what's in the book.
I (heart) werewolves, (esp. misguided teenage werewolves).
And I (heart) Ellis.
And I really (heart) Jeff's movie.
JEFF, I took the SAME family group to sees Rats on its opening day as I took to see yr flick (with the exception of my 77 yr old Grandmother, who is back in Oregon--still had my 70 yr old aunt along for the septagenerian perspective) AND THE VERDICT IS IN: THEY ALL LIKED SURF's UP BETTER!!
The top one is a photo from another blog. An intimate shot some girl had made of herself that I then inported into Art Rage and used the trace function. Probably the closest thing to Fine Art I've ever produced. I could get some serious bucks for that on Ebay if it was actually done in oills. The red and black thing is just a doodle.
I know I'm a Grim Reaper with the obits but this is worth posting.
Kerwin Matthews who battled such creatures as evil giants and mythical monsters on the silver screen, passed away at the age of 81.
Born on January 8, 1926, Mr. Matthews got his first major break in an episode of the tv show, "Space Patrol" which led to roles on "Playhouse 90" and "The Ford Playhouse Theater."
His talents led him to co-star in such feature films as the underated , "Five Against the House" and "Tarawa Beachead," but it was "The Seventh Voyage Of Sinbad" that we all remember him from as Sinbad battling such monsters as the Roc, the cyclops and the living skeleton all in DYNAMATION!
Any ideas on meeting? I know we did lunch last time but maybe dinner might be better. More time to sit and talk? More time for Scotty Buncake to wow us with his rapier sharp wit?? I know I would like more. Please any ideas are welcome! Submit them. The time is NOW!!!
"X-Bomber (Xボンバー Ekkusu Bonbā) is a marionette tokusatsu TV series. Created by manga master Go Nagai, the show, aired on Fuji TV from October 4, 1980 to March 28, 1981, with a total of 26 episodes. This show was billed in Japan as being filmed in "Sūpāmariorama" (スーパーマリオラマ), a puppeteering process similar to Gerry Anderson's Supermarionation works. This show is basically a cross between Nagai's Getter Robo and Star Wars. Just like Getter Robo, the show's protagonists ride three vehicles that combine into a giant robot. Big Dai X, the show's robot, is more similar to the kind seen in the popular Super Sentai series than your average Nagai robot."
Now why didn't Krayonzilla hip us to any of these videos???
I had to go to get my eyes checked last month and I had my sketchbook with me. The doc dialated my pupils and I tried to draw. So after the appointment I couldn't drive home so I decided to see a movie. I saw "Bug". Oh man what an awful movie. I walked out shaking my head and comiserated with a fellow moviegoer. I should have seen Pirates instead.
BTW I'm really digging these Moleskin sketchbooks!!!
I've been staying at my sister's place in San Jose for the past 3 months while waiting for my house in MA to sell and for the family to move here. The house is sold (Sue signed the papers just this morning!) and this past weekend was my last staying at my sister's. She lives literally one black away from an Egyptian temple... that's right, smack dab in the middle of a sleepy San Jose suburb at the southern end of Silicon Valley is The Rosicrucian Center and Egyptian Museum... only in California! At any rate, this is the only worthwhile sketch I did while I walked around the grounds of this eccentric place on Sunday.
Prop used in the commercial for the Evil Dead game. (See frame Grab above) A Bruce Campbell hero worshipping nerd has his hand cut off to replace it with a lawn trimmer and then makes the mistake of trying to intimidate his neighbour, the real Bruce Campbell by revving this prop and shooting him a look. Campbell then jumps the hedge and chases the maimed neighbour. I'm selling it on EBAY. I will report how much I made.
