A page from Marty's "CHUBBY CHEEKERS"

I'm working with Marty on his book. Mostly cleaning it up while he works on other stuff. He wanted me to post a page while he was off on his east coast sojourn the next few days.

Love that restaurant interior shot in the middle. The portrat of the old guy seems fact based. Is it?

Ellis! I love reading yr optimism over my little project's prospects.

I really sweated that restaurant, so I'm glad you dig it. But no, Gerry isn't based on anyone--my only thought was I wanted him to look very realistic...for a man-gopher.

Gotta agree, this looks incredible. Don't know what the story is going to be about, but it promises to be wonderful as well.

On another note, I noticed in the paper this morning that the San Diego Opera is shutting down "amid a spiral of eroding finances and declining patronage". I've never been to the San Diego Opera so I don't know why this seems sad to me. Maybe because that means no more Marty, Scott and Eric opera drawings. Unless Conrad Prebys steps in and grants the opera folk a few million.

Tom, the news about S.D. Opera is really sad. We're on the road right now, but Jimmy sent me a link to the story (thanks, Jimmy!). It came as a shock. Staging live music, with orchestra, sets, costumes, chorus and world-class singers comes at a hell of a cost. Tickets can easily top $100 and that's only 1/3 the expense of staging the production.

Comic books are a lot cheaper....in the spirit of extending the visual/story/music confluence typified in the opera artform, I plan to one day offer a my version of the great Power Records comic book/45rpm record hybrid for publication.

All voice talent, please apply via my email!

(thanks for the kind words on the page, too, fellas--it gives me a big lift!)
