Firekicker- Tuseday doodle

Focusing on the ventriloquist story Joined Together for this 4 day break.
Start the New Year with a project that represents work I want to do in the style I want to do it.
I will micro niche in 2015.
Firekicker is a doodle. Not related.

Group picture I got roped into taking. The dark haired lady is Charly.
It was her last day.
She got a nice state gov job.
I enjoyed talking to her.
She was Apache-Mexican, lived a lot in New Zealand, big film buff.
A lot better to talk to than yakking with the other goofs about sports.
She gave me a bundle of her daughter's art supplies.
Some good stuff.

More late night doodles

Sega questions

From Ken Horowitz. I think Rick mentioned his contacts with him.
These are the questions I'll answer for his book.

1.       - How did you become involved in Jurassic Park?  I wasn't
2.       - How much did you prepare to create art for the dinosaurs? Did you have to do any extra research? may tell what I know about other people working. Trips to Stan Winston studio that I didn't take for instance
3.       - I've read that BlueSky strove to make the animation as lifelike as possible, and that paleontologist Dr. Robert Bakker dissected a chicken to discuss dinosaur anatomy. Is this true? Did it help you with your animation? Never heard that
- Rick Schmitz told me that you created much of the concept art for Vectorman. How did you become involved? cattle call
4.       - What did you use as your inspiration for the characters and environments? art directors
5.       - How much of your concept art made it into the final game? none
6.       - Were you involved in the sequel? yes. Used the Karl Robillard system for some mini game animation
7.       - Why did you leave BlueSky? Sony hired me for a week

Commission 2 done

Took a fragment of UP concept art, the clouds, scaled it way up, filtered it, motion blur and a couple of other bits of dabbling.
Good easy background for this commission.
Tried to use some of what would be the ambient light mixing with the rest of the color.
Still a little careless.

Day after Christmas-I'll be drawing horses

Plan to draw 20 horses.
Horse drawing school diploma tomorrow.
This is on the dash of Scott Sackett's car. Not in the museum.
8 tons of white marble. From a 31 ton block.
Known as the Canyon Princess- not Snow Princess

Charles Russell doing a sculpt of super deformed Indian mystic who gives all the animals their wild coloration.

in from the night herd
The original is awesome-super subtle

I was drawn to copy mostly Remington.
Some great, great art.
Including a Jeremy Lipking piece.
Dean Cornwell. Rockwell.
Worth a return visit for sure.

SLOTS!

Slots Ahoy! & Big Barn Slots  are a couple of quick slots games we just made in the past month that I did the art for.  This was kind of a quick experiment, something that is meant specifically for the WildTangent game app.  No iOS versions of these games... Android only at this point.  These games are more about advertising than In App Purchase.  No real gambling here... just play money.

If you've seen any of the art I did for Swipe the Gold, you will see that we reused a lot of that art for Slots Ahoy.  We were pressed to try to get these out before Christmas... a lot of people get new phones and tablets for Christmas and one of the first things they do is look for apps to load up their device with.  The WT app is preloaded on a lot of devices, so it's a conduit by which we can get first crack at a large audience.  I'll let you know how it goes... we did this with a couple of other quick-turnaround games and have had some encouraging success already.

The loading screens are the most interesting part of these games... perhaps I'll share those in another post.

sumopaint dot com

Reacting to a DPI discussion on FB (fixed at 72 dpi)  caused me to remember sumo paint and play with again.
Just wanted an url for this image.
The mass of texture and tone are from alpha channels that I'll do painterly shapes with first.
The white lines on top of the texture are also on an alpha channel.
Spent the past 3 or 4 hours formatting the script.
All the text is in a psd level, ready to turn into a balloon or caption.
Just need to draw with abandon,
Hopefully, the fun part.

When I wake up it will be Tuesday, my Friday

The way I'm procrastinating on my new supergirl commission is re draw it on the thumbnail level instead of digging in and finishing it.
 Ta-Da
As usual too tight to be any good when I try and do "finish."
I couldn't even do this good if I didn't have Ben Caldwell books to cop looseness from.
I scaled her head down 3 times. And it still looks too big.
Hard to believe I  didn't notice it at first.

 Added a little preliminary tone.
Did a lot of Shop changing and clean up.
She has a new look. Hair was curly before.

A font for all seasons

If you thought that Comic Sans and Papyrus are useful fonts, have a look at THIS.  You may never need another font again.

Got the pose, taking up the space of the page nicely.
I'll try and finish it tomorrow.

Tuesday- Figure Drawing at OCU- -Calance, anyone hear of them?

Had a good time drawing.
I have a recruiter named Calance wanting to work with me for a Graphic Designer job.
I just have my doubts about them. They seem big, semi legit.
But there is no info wiki on them I can find. And some poor reviews the only reviews I could find.
Balanced by good reviews that might be fake.
Anyone know of the company?
Giving this an url again. I didn't want to look up the previous post. Someone wants to see it.
Greg Martel. The caveman from Dinosaurus. I've decided Frazetta was using studies of his face for his Werewolf strip.
