New obsession-Digital oil look

The next enworld assignment is going to look like this sort of faux oil.

I need to do some old sketches like this. Paint into them, do them quick with set value palettes, enforce the Reilly idea of preparation for quick work.

another off a very loose sketch. And I realized, after doing this, what I'm after is an oil look straight out of loose doodles.

Everyone always says "I like your doodles."

That's it. I've graduated to doodles only, hereafter.

Taking an inked doodle, selecting the black with channels, making the selection a path, filling the path to get a clean vector shape type  of look. And then messing it up.

More March MODOK Madness, more using Illustrator for line work.
You'd think characters so ingrained onto one's psyche could be drawn without a lot of reference. You'd be wrong.
How do you edit an Illustrator file once you apply a clipping mask to it?

MODOK Meshugas

I finally made the time to do a little bit made-up projects. Here is my attempt at March MODOK Madness. I'll show the process just to feed my ego:

It's funny because MODOK doesn't have a lap. I have the sinking feeling I am the only one who thinks this is humorous.

On another note, once again, I have been laid off. Looking for work, I become Einstein's definition of insanity. 

Still getting work

Took awhile to get an assignment this month. I guess we've both got over the pain of the great Judge Dredd disaster.

I'll add the color finish tomorrow.

I've discovered I can not do this kind of work without a podcast going.

I think desaturated is better.

I also took some of Ben's notes.

Filled shape drawing

Using the free form pen tool in photoshop to draw with. I have an action linked to pressing F1. The Button push causes the path to close, become a selection and  then fill the selection.

You can get the same effect drawing with the magic lasso but the pen tool comes with sensitivity settings that smooth out the lines.

Local author I did an illustration for her (hopefully) continuing story.

Fun story told with great arcs of pay offs and conflict.

Making it look easy.

I gave her a revised version with less artifact issues where she flopped the image.
