ECCC prints

I now have a plan for some prints.  My Victorian Skull series of index card drawings have been the best received out of all the stuff I've been doing, so I'm going to make some prints of them, complete with a faux matte so they really are ready for framing.  Then, these originals I'm putting in actual frames and selling them for a substantial mark up.  Now I just need to build some sort of display to put the prints on that I can easily transport.  I'm considering a black foamcore structure of some sort.  Or perhaps a PVC pipe something or another.  Or maybe something that piggybacks off of my banner.

Update:  Tom asked to see the image I mentioned in the comments.  Here it is:

Oh, and incase you are wondering (from top to bottom) it's coyote, giraffe, don't recall and otter.

Nice work Rick. I can see why you get these to move. People want something that is uniquely the artist.
You talking about display makes me very time conscious of my own next con outings.

Middle of April and soon after that. The banners are fine. It's how smart your table surface is that really separates the pro and the amateur.

Do a beauty display, don't worry about getting all your stock on the table surface, Maybe use a tabbed box to sell originals.

It would really be worth prototyping. You know the table dimension, sketch it, do mock ups.

Yeah, in the past I've actually measured out the size of the surface on our dining table and arranged things how they ought to go. Marty and I each have our own table this time around, so I'll have twice as much space. I'm going to put my banner right on the table so that it won't be hidden by my body and then I'm putting up another rack for the prints... figured out what I think is a great idea for that, btw... I found a baby gate at a thrift store for $5. Its roughly a 30" square but slides out to twice that size. I have an idea about how to prop it up, too. It has a sort of plastic mesh that I can use paper clips to hook up the art, so I don't even need to damage the 'display copies' of the prints.
I'll still have my books to sell as well as the framed images and other index cards. I think this will be my best display yet. I was rather discouraged by my poor showing at RCCC... I think it was mostly our location (and that I had to pay for a hotel!), but it doesn't help if your table is boring.

I've also been hitting the social media hard... posting lots of stuff on every service. Instagram has been the source of the most positive response, but I suspect that few of those folks are attending ECCC. Still, I'm getting word around, so it all helps.

I like that idea of mapping first. I may go to vistaprint for a new banner. Horizontal across the table front. Repeat the design so when i don't have a whole table, I just fold it in two.

169 bucks. I'd like one. Too much. Maybe with study I could figure out how to make my own. Holds your tablecloth on as well.

I searched, 'attach banner to a convention table.'

It's a great series of drawings, but I wouldn't have predicted that such an esoteric concept would get the best response out of all your wares! That's good to know that such an original idea has turned out to be popular as well. They seem like they might appeal to a steam-punky kind of crowd. I guess the idea is to have something original enough that it stands out, but still with a foothold in one of the major popular genres.

To be fair, I wasn't sharing a bunch of Ironman drawings, so I don't necessary have much to compare it to, just my other stuff. When I was doing the Inktober thing there was one drawing I did that was by far the most popular... it garnished more Likes than anything else I did that month. It was a drawing of a Clint Eastwood style cowboy wrapped in a native American blanket. It was an intricate drawing of a recognizable archetype. For some reason it hit a cord, and it was unlike anything else I did that month. I might dig that up and make a print out if it, too. I actually have too many print options at this point... I need to make some choices as to what to print up. I'm kinda scattershot with themes, which I think is a weakness to my overall presentation, but if something seems to click you can bet I'm going to double down on it next time.

I'd like to see the Clint Eastwood picture. Maybe you could post it here or point us to where it's posted.

I've added the image to the post.

That is a cool image! No wonder people liked it.

Very cool image. I suggest doing a print of Stan Lee. Someone in our group on Facebook has a print of Lee that he sells. Lee came over and took a picture with Jerry Bennet at Planetcomicon in Kansas this past weekend.
