Sketchfab is Fabulous
Seemed like a better place to put it.

Mostly sketches. Occasionally a painting. Nothing political other than caricatures reinforcing the truism "Politics is Show Business for Ugly People".

hmmm. Big blank white spot. Do I have to download sketchfab. If I do I'm no doubt not going to join the party. My mac mini internet computer has x10.4. As new as it will get for an OS.
I can see what looks like grid paper now. And my cursor becomes a square snapping across the grid.
Shouldn't have to download anything, Ellis. I updated the model not too long ago. Might be a cacheing issue. Let me see if I can repro your problem.
I tried it in another browser. Got the white grid and square, but the model and textures streamed in after a few seconds. Can you see the model if you give it a little of time?
I gave it a lot of time. I imagine it's a sign in issue.
OK. That is weird. What browser are you using? Shouldn't be a problem to see it and you shouldn't have to log in. Might be a browser/version issue (I'm not sure what minimum supported browser/standard is). Maybe others can report if they are seeing it or not.
I'm on the most current firefox my OS will allow. So it's old. That probably is what is wrong. Some Java , script, issue I can't process.
3.6.8 Hell, they're on Firefox 21. I'm lucky I can write this comment
This is actually good feedback, Ellis. Good thing to keep in mind is that not everybody will be up to the latest browsers and whatnot. If I show exclusive Sketchfab content, I can't be guaranteed they'll be able to see everything.
I can't see it either. I'm on Internet Explorer.
My little minimac is about to be shoved off the internet.
I'm not even sure my 4 or 5 year old Imac is up for complete browser upgrades. Probably not. For one thing , I don't want to mess with new OS. While not nearly as bad at destroying all your previous software installs as Windows, mac OS upgrades get some complaints. I'd rather have programs that work instead of all the media that Huffington Post can give me.
The sign on with Sketchfab probably gives you a cookie that lets it work. I also have cookies turned off.
So. I just checked it on my wife's Mac Mini, using Chrome and it showed up. Took a few seconds.
I think the kicker here is being WebGL compliant, which not all browsers or versions of browsers are.
Here's a link to a page that tests whether you are WebGL compliant:
http://get.webgl.org/
This is obviously a fly in the ointment. I was all ready to go nuclear on my portfolio and replace most everything with Sketchfab links. Definitely not sure I'm ready to do that.
"Oh no! We are sorry, but your browser does not seem to support WebGL.
You can upgrade Firefox by clicking this link."
Except I can't. OS X10.4 - Got all the firefox that will let me have.
But that probably is the problem.
WebGL support is a bit unpredictable, from what I've seen. Latest Firefox and Chrome handle it well. My version of IE doesn't behave like Firefox and Chrome. Weird.
Post a screen grab of what your screen looks like
I see. I could spin and turn that. That would be good for the artist selling himself.
Do it anyway. Just as a redundant way to put yourself out there.
Yep. That's exactly what I thought. The biggest challenge in building a portfolio is finding the right angle for the model. You invariably end up with screengrabs that never quite get the job done. Sketchfab solves that - but it's not a perfect solution as I'm seeing. Can't control who uses which browsers.
And, some IT guys are loath to make OS upgrades at game companies. In some cases they can't. Pipeline concerns keep them from it. All the tools built with a certain OS in mind.
I see. So anybody could put that in a portfolio on their website and the person viewing the site could spin the model around.
That's a clever idea. Why don't I think of things like that?
Anyhow, I haven't done much 3d modeling lately. Been too long.
NEAT!
