Many of you know I wrote about eight liberal songs as part of a musical variety revue called "I Survived The Bush Administration ..." Well, the songs are doing very, very well on the IAC Internet music network (a #6, a #7, two other Top 20s, etc.) and also great on MySpace .... This prompted me to try out YouTube (never had done anything with it before) and Revver (never even heard of that one ... I'm not putting the actual video on the blog, but I've attached a link to the video on Revver ... Let me know what you think. I learned a lot about lip syncing in Flash 8. Hadn't done that since using Magpie to sync up the vocals for the characters in Goosbumps: Return of the Mutant" at BlueSky Software in the mid-90s.
So, have fun. In case the link doesn't work, here it is here in the body of the post:

Congratulations Tom to you and your team! You may have found your special niche as a writer in political satire. This kind of material certainly has a built-in audience these days. Why didn't you give yourself credit for the graphics?
Hmmm ... Hadn't thought about crediting the animation at the time ... I will on the next ones (they will actually use my own artwork instead of images culled from the 'Net).
Next in the chute is "Bake Sale," and then "The Terrorism Cha-Cha."
Guilliani 08. Nice work Tom. Did you make an easy to retrieve symbol pack of the animtion parts? I'm about to dig into a book called How to Cheat with Flash CS3 by a very advanced animator with Flash. Lots of great tutorials.
Yes, I want to be playing with Flash as well... I hope the learing curve is not too steep!
Mat Broome has asked me to make a tutorial sheet / download for the Flash 8 lip syncing ... so when I have that done in the next day or so I will email it out to you both (and anyone else who wants it). I found a tutorial online, but like so many, critical parts of it were either accidentally left out or omitted because the author needed to a) save space, b) thought they were self explanatory (which they weren't) or c) both of the above.
snicker.
And yes, Ellis, I made a layer with all the phonym shapes on it, turned it into a guide layer, then just ALT + mouse dragged them onto the lip sync layer to build up the mouth moves. Doing this to an audio track at 14 fps proved to be not too challenging and that part of the process was actually very quick! Then it was back to put in the other elements and to animate the eye blinks ...
I didn't know you knew Mat Broome Tom. Have you two worked with each other?
I've played a little bit with Flash, but I'm no expert. It's a lot of fun, but it's another one of those things that, unless you use it on an ongoing basis, you forget.
I got to meet Mat at this year's Con ... he hosted a panel on Intellectual Properties. Since then, we've kept a dialog going about I.P.s and such. He's quite the dynamo, ain't he?
