I'm studying Charles Sanders and Cheeks. Probably need to pull out the Joe Chiodo as well since he does this elongation thing so well.

Sand Painting

For those of you not on Facebook, or who don't keep track of such things ...

It's so gratifying to see a fine artist win one of these " ___'s Got Talent" shows. She uses a light box, music, imagination and extraordinary sand-painting skills to interpret Germany's invasion and occupation of Ukraine during WWII. I love that she used one of my favorite tunes (Apocalyptica's Nothing Else Matters).

More Scoring Pencil Doodles

Electronic Scoring pencils have made me forget that I haven't seen CORK for a Looonnnngggg time.

Elmore Leonard TV Show

I'm a Elmore Leonard completest. I think I've read all his work. Including his great westerns. Raylan Givens is one of his most bad assed characters. This clip I got from AintItCool looks like it gets the character right. I hope this plays on Hulu or something so I get to watch it before DVD release.
I even have the DEC 1953 issue of Argosy with Leonard's first published work. That took some ebay work to find that.

Scoring Pencils

Title is the link to a pencil I discovered in my collection.
It's out of manufacture.
But I found some other scoring pencils made by Dixon.
It's a very buttery and fun lead to draw with.

The sketches are incidental to the feel of putting the line down.

So I recommend finding an office supply with scoring pencils.

I added another sketch that combines the three pencils I've been working with. It's probably no more complex than discovering I like the equivalent of a 4b pencil.

The Write Environment -- Excellent

I watched and listened to this DVD today and found it excellent. It is the Comic Book Series Special Edition from Jeffrey Berman's "The Write Environment." Featured on the DVD are Marv Wolfman, Mark Waid, and Geoff Johns, with a teaser segment from David Hayter thrown in for good measure. Worth a look for aspiring writers out there looking for info and inspiration ...

07-31-09 - Maybe my last day in video games?

Got laid off at Heavy-Iron today. Finished SpongeBob and that budget constriction of no more Nick money caused another belt tightening. Me and 7 others.

I'm sure I'll find something but it might not be in games. I'm a little long in the tooth for a new hire in games.

I'm thinking about a concept from Chris Hardwicke. Multi Freelanceing, looking for client like recurrence.

Got enough dough to think about the situation for a few weeks.

I mostly got toys- but I got a couple of Harvey Comics with Howie Post in them.

My favorite thing I got was this 1/12th scale model of a Gibson Les Paul! I used to own one, so it fills me with happy nostalgia!

Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and Sugar Pops Pete are now resting with my soakie toy collection.

It's 5:20 am. I couldn't go back to sleep until I had confessed all. I bought mostly used children's books from the "Bud Plant - Hutchison Used Books" booth. Some from "Stuart Ng Fine Art Books", and from the small press, alternative and independent booths. Nothing mainstream this year. I think I kept it under $200. Not bad. Special love for the children's book art of my childhood, the Eisenhower years; soft, comforting, safe style.

Publisher's Sample of "Batter! Broil!! Baste!!!" ...

Here is the link to the publisher's sample (aka: dummy) of "Batter! Broil!! Baste!!! The Comic Creators Cookbook" as uploaded to the Scribd Website. I've never used Scribd before, but so far it appears to do everything as advertised. What you see here is only five of the approximately 95 recipes the finished book will contain and I will use this sample to lure a publisher into working with myself and Jill Duffy to finish, polish, and publish the balance.

yay comic con!

I inked and colored this lovely drawing by John K- for some newsletter. It's gonna be in black in white, but we decided to make it in color for the hell of it! I did draw Bobby Bigloaf's hand holding a limp lightsaber. I told John without it, it's unrecognizable that he's in Luke Skywalker cosplay. It just looks like a bathrobe, haha.

Comic Con Gathering?

Another year is upon us and no mention of a possible gathering of the TAG forces. I was thinking of an alternative of going to Dennys or something after the show hours on one of the later days (Frtiday or Saturday). Anyway other suggestions are welcomed too.

Cork postcard for the Con

Hi everyone. Been running around like a goose with diaretic issues getting ready for the Con. I just okayed the printer in NY for 100 copies of Cork that should get here the DAY of preview night. Today I also bought a domain name for http://www.corkcomic.com/! I've also decided at the last minute to print a bunch of postcards to hand out at the table. Watching the Spirit with Directors commentary

This was a doodle that I did a speed inking job. I'm trying to have fun inking in photoshop. I'm getting there. At least getting to where it's becoming fun.

What I'm up to

I plan on having a tif. Ten "groups" per tif, representing ten pages. Shooting for ten tifs or 100 pages.

First, I complete my spoken word script to place into itunes. Cue up the place I'm working as I thumbnail

First Color Comic Page ...

I intimated earlier about a comic book project I picked up at last year's Con. I'm penciling, coloring, and lettering and my friend, Johnny B. Gerardy is embellishing / inking. Fun it is. I'm up to page seven on the pencils and this is the first page w/colors and letters. I blanked out any identifying marks and figure I can put this page up for views.
