I was going to put shadows under them but I worry it would hurt the read.

Bloodless aren't they. Traced spiders with paint jobs. Hopefully they do the job for the ENworld role they are meant for.
Game cliches are perpetual because they work. You don't need to tell someone they are elemental spiders... it's self-evident.
At least you bothered to look up some reference... when I draw spiders it's usually out of my head and when I look at a real spider later I always notice that I got it all wrong.
