Just for laffs: a shot of the marker monster mash-up in progress:
And a qwik-sketch demo from my animal drawing class. I use a purple Tombow brushpen 'cuz they are very visible. I'm drawing on a giant 24" x 36" newsprint pad--it's this new oversized pad they sell, and they've got an oversized masonite drawing board to go with it. It's the coolest thing, great for demo'ing in front of the class--except the damn clips aren't worth a crap (just like all masonite drawing boards nowadays...). And my arms are so short, I can't fit the thing under one arm--even using the handhold hole (pictured above).

I want your horse drawing for my wall.
You mean a better TAG citizen by posting more? You've succeeded. So, did you just draw that horse out of your head in front of the class? I'm so in awe of your abilities!
Great horse sketch. I've never noticed you having short arms. That clip is unable to cope with a new big fat newsprint pad. It works it's way slightly to and fro every time the weight is shifted. Add a couple of big bulldog clips to how it's held. I amy have two life drawing sessions next week.
So the great ComicFest cover sure got a lot of hits. Do you lighten the marker as well as you work with some diluting marker work, mixing it down, or is all the subtle lights and darks the result of photoshop?
Godzilla and the Curse Demon are what make me ask. I wondered how they got lighter.
Elz! I know, that Gorgo and Curse of the Demon gave me fits...I did a test run on a different paper to get the fade I wanted, and when I tried it on the big piece it didn't work at all! I'm just layering markers--it's mainly a choice of, do I put the yellow sky down like a big wash and draw into it (which will soften the edge of yr strokes just like watercolor) or do I draw the creature and then color over him/her/it with the same color as my sky? This was in progress. I markered over Gorgo and C.o.t.Demon more to knock them back. Just coloring over a darker color with a lighter color CAN knock it back.
And then I tuned the levels in PhotoShop.
My horse demo was from a photo I was projecting in front of the class...walking them thru my process. And later I threw a quickie shadow pattern on there just to explain how you can invent a simple shadow pattern to help the form read. Glad you guys like it! I should post some of my actual quick sketches--I projected a few horse jumping videos for the class and we all tried to draw from them--it's tough!
Yes Tom, I need to post more. Getting these new classes going has been taking all my time the last couple months so I feel badly that I missed so much T.A.G. Action. And I still feel bad ablut insulting the old Supermans that you loved as a child....I love yr reasoning and it's given me a new appreciation! Did you read that article on just the same subject from The Atlantic recently? I was gonna post it here...let's see how long it takes Ellis to find it and post a link!
Here's a cool horse ref I got off FB

That link might come up untrusted. I worded it different on this url so at least it comes up with the immediate option of saving or opening

Marty, Thanks for the info on your marker technique.
