RIP Shel!!! :-(

Just got this on Facebook:

I just spoke with Shel's brother Mike. Shel passed away at 1:15 PM Pacific Time today, Tuesday November 3rd at Sharp Hospital in San Diego after a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM this Wednesday at the "Home of Peace" cemetary located at
3668 Imperial Avenue San Diego, Ca 92123 ( Ph: 619-583-8850).
Mike said that any friends of Shel are more than welcome to attend the service.

Respectfully, Charlie Roberts

I think I'll try and make the 1 oclock memorial. I've already mapped it out. Get in the city real early, Buy some flowers and drop in and say hi to a lot of people.

Shel was the proverbial Peter Pan… he never grew up and was never interested in anything other than being around creative people and meeting his heroes. He was a good guy and as one of the founders of the Con, he is either directly or indirectly was responsible for perhaps hundreds of careers in comics, games, film, etc. He could be frustrating and annoying at times, but in the way a child can be that is easy to forgive. I am grateful that I knew him and grateful for his efforts on behalf of his friends who, if we include all the attendees of the Con, number in the tens of thousands.

It's unfortunate that the service was scheduled for so soon ... I'm afraid TAG will be rather underrepresented, since most of you guys are no longer in San Diego. But I think it's great that a couple of you are coming down from L.A. My brother (Peter) and I will see you guys there.

Just got the sad message from Jeff. I didn't know Shel very well but am grateful that I got to meet him. I regret that I will not be able to be there.
