Hola, TAG,
A new friend of mine is a Hollywood type who routinely works on script development for TV and film (no joke, she really does) ... a while ago she produced a screenplay that deals with a mother who is at odds because of empty nest issues and a husband who may be straying from the nest. Mystical elements enter her life from an unexpected source and they both help her and challenge her at the same time. The script was attached to Diane Keaton at one time, at another it was attached to anotherA-list actress (the name now escapes me, but it could have been Meryl Streep...), but in the end it always fell out of development. This friend wants to now translate this screenplay into a graphic novel that can be published (or self published) and then possibly begin another run at being picked up by a studio.
This isn't a pipe dream. I met with her about it last weekend after I attended the Gnomon Workshop in L.A. ...
My friend wants to develop character sketches and produce a six page demo to take to Comic Con ... She will translate her script into graphic novel format. She is aggressive about this project and is not averse to paying for artwork from an artist with the skills to do this kind of non-superhero project.
I know that I am not the artist to take this project forward -- But do you TAGsters have any ideas about it or art candidates who might be suitable?
Email me directly if you do, but comments to the post are most welcome!

two words. Marty Davis
Seven words. "I have bird poop in my hair."
... Trying... hard... to understand... Scott's... last comment. Must... discern... hidden... meaning... Don't... get it.
Just about every artist that posts on this blog, (with the exception of myself), could do it. Everyone else has actually been a movie or video games concept artist at one time or another.
And am I right in saying that Scott is the only artist among us who has actually been in the comics field on an ongoing basis. (I know Ellis has produced Zonzen online and in print).
One word ... (imagine the one word with a Peanuts style Charlie Brown wistfulness to it) ... "Sigh ..."
It's just a big undertaking. I mentioned Marty because I know he has a very good "real" character invention ability. But I almost mention him because he's as unlikely as any of us to put the time and energy into something and not have ownership. If I were her and had access to a computer with photoshop, I'd make a fumetti (sp?) . Italian or Spanish style comices where it's all based on photoshop. With a few filter passes you'd have something that looked like Scanner Darkly. You'd still want the photos to have good sillohuttes.
My sentence should have been, "where it's all based on PHOTOS."
And then my other omitted sentence should have been, " That's the mystery Benefiel smell!"
Yup ... I get it. I thought that someone might know someone who might have a friend who was looking to "break in..." It was just a thought. There is someone from the Drunk Duck Web comic site going through the due dilligence right now and we'll see where that leads. ;-)
Serious question for anyone who knows - what's the pay scale range for an artist doing a movie-length graphic novel, say 96 pages?
I've heard that comic artists are getting paid $150 to $500 per page nowadays. So, your friend could shell out $15,000 to $50,000 for this project?
Tom, may I ask your friend's name and whether or not she has had anything produced?
anyone interested in more info should email me at rockstar ... ;-)
This is a paying gig? I'll do 6 pages!
Go Rick!
I should officially call off this thread ... my "friend" seems to be okay negotiating with a Web comic designer who does a comic called "Danielle Dark." To see more of his work, check out http://www.drunkduck.com/Danielle_Dark/index.php?p=178970
Well, if she changes her mind, you know where you can find me!
