The Dip
This is a page from my picture book dummy KITCHEN DANCE, which is off to the agent tomorrow. He's only been waiting a year for me to finish it. Nice and soft and quiet and fully clothed. Just a little rest from any excess of testosterone.
It's interesting, if you squint down just right it becomes a gray version of Skrbbl's gecko thing. Kidding. Great fluid figure work. Tells us all about the project.
Beautiful work MJM, and I'm in agreement about this site needing the testosterone break. I'd love to see more of what you've been doing lately. Do you work from models when you do a drawing like this?
I'm sure you noticed that in Scott's "Zap" drawing, the woman is fully clothed, and is sitting quietly and looks quite soft. Whether she's "nice" or not is a matter of opinion.
Ellis -- you mean Skrbbl's drawing becomes a colored version of mine, since mine was posted first. Or perhaps I was also inspired by someone carrying a garbage bags filled with corn cobs.
Actually, this is from a picture book I wrote based on the drawing "Kitchen Dance" on my site. I often will draw something for fun and then see if I can come up with an idea that has the legs for a full book. I think I'll be finishing the dummy today -- I'll throw another sketch from it up on the blog.
MJM: Did I see illustrations by you in Spider Magazine? Just wondering. I'm too lazy to go look through back issues, but your style is pretty identifiable ... Great post. Can't wait to see more!!
Ah hah!! It WAS Ladybug then. My 5 year old loves Ladybug; my 12 year old still reads Spider cover to cover (even though she's read the Narnia series and Swallows & Amazons all the way through twice ... amongst other things. Keep up the great work, MJM. As I'm sure you know, it is noticed! ;-)
Thank you TC -- ha. Discerning children you have! Carus is cream of the crop in children's mags as far as I'm concerned. I thrilled when they contacted me to see if I'd do a story (I'd never queried them, which makes it even sweeter.)

nicely done... beautiful and pleasant.
And good to have you back and posting! Maybe I ought to try it!
working feverishly on halloween costumes and decor... perhaps I post some pics!
Ha ha! Nice comment MJM!
Glad to see you're still around! Nice drawing as usual!
BTW I have a friend who is close to publishing his own kids board book. Can I send him your way for first-time advice?

Scribbl -- of course I'd be happy to talk to your friend with my 2 cents on publishing. Feel free to give him my email.
Topcat -- Spider no, though I did stories in the last year for two of Carus's other mags, Click! and Ladybug.
