Article- 10 reasons I doubt Tim's Vermeer

I've decided I'm also a skeptic.

Initially one of my bumps was when he decides to make his own pigments.

Crayola sketch wizard. Pretty cheap. 

And one person nails why skepticism is called for. Vermeer worked using glazed layers. Tim is Alla Prima. The bottom value study of Vermeer guided every other drop of paint that went on top. Something not even mentioned in the doc.
The original transcription of the scene, the bottom layer? Maybe an aid here or there.
Like the article writer points out parallax and distortion are constant headaches with Tim's tool.
My bet is Vermeer's only tool was a grid to peer through. Matched by a light grid on canvas.

Another great movie. It's a few years old, so I'm a little late to this party, but I just watched it and loved every second. Definitely watch it if you haven't seen it.

Edit to add a lecture by Philip Steadman, author of 'Vermeer's Camera' and professor at the Bartlett School of Architecture and Graduate Studies. Steadman plays a pivotal role in the development of Tim Jenison's theory about Vermeer. This lecture is nice follow-on to the movie, as he explains his own discoveries about Vermeer's work and also goes over Jenison's technique in detail.
