This new class on illustration...I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to teach--and how. Composition is good, right? (movie frames ganked (from stills) include Logan's Run, Gun Crazy, The Big Heat, Kiss Me Deadly and something with Olivia DeHaviland as a twin?)
Just getting back to the routine after a long time away from the keyboard (went on vacation and didn't take my laptop). Saw this on Tumblr today and had to customize it. Wish I'd had it in time to make it our Xmas card. Next year!

Love those Noir sketches. I see Gun Crazy easy. Tried to figure which was Kiss Me Deadly. Glad the Holidays are over just so we see more of you.
Kiss Me Deadly, upper right? Scene where a guy is trailing Meeker/Hammer and Meeker is eating popcorn?
Elz! Thanks for the kind words--that page of comps was definitely inspired by that good old Goodson goodness!
The only Kiss Me Deadly is the lower left...'Vette making his was thru Bunker Hill area (right? with Angel's Flight rail car) to interview opera singer. The upper right is from The Big Heat, I believe. But they all sorta meshed together after awhile....
Marty, glad you are back! Love the "Marty and Blair" comic panel. Hilarious! Do you know what comic it's from? Tell us more about your new illustration class. Who is paying you to give the class? And they just said, "Teach an illustration class," without specifying what kind of illustration to teach?
Tommy! I will post the original panel--you'll see I had to shave the dudes head to make him a proper Marty clone. Glad it gave you a laff. I am going to get it printed and surprise Blair--should give her a laff, too!
Thanks for the welcome back. Classes this semester are the same animal drawing class, (all day Saturday), a Traditional Illustration class (all day Friday) and a Mon/Wed 3 hour Life Drawing for Animation class. I have to completely construct the syllabus for the two new ones--and still lots of kinks to iron out of the Animal class.
I feel fortunate to have them ask me to teach all these, but I am definitely girding my loins for the challenge of teaching a 16 course on illustration. I'll post my syllabus and get some opinions from you guys.
Happy New Years!
That's so great Marty. In modifying the panel you had to shave the guy's head and then reapply a flesh zipatone to the new bald top. I would have never guessed the guy originally had hair.
Awesome! But you didn't answer Tom's question... what comic is that panel from?
