Inktober starts tomorrow

 Time for Inktober starting tomorrow.
Instead of cheating like I planned and doing about 5 sketches before the start, I decided to work on this strip.
I'm going to fill all the blank panels today.

Tom Moon. Do you watch the female MMA fighters. I don't much. The occasional highlight reel. I would like to see Ronda Rousey fight Cyborg.
Someone loaned me a DVD. He claims that Ronda wins almost all her fights with armbars.
Inktober#1
This is Inktober 9. I wanted to be ahead so I'd commit to 31 drawings.
I'll batch them all in one post on my Moldbreaker blog in a couple of days.

A Step-by-Step for the Young'ns

No tracing. Just stiff naturally. A little something to ground the students for our big anatomy illustration assignment.

I want all the muscles labeled and stuff...is this too retrograde for the 21st Century?

I heard they're making a "Blade Runner 2" (a title that in itself defies belief). I comfort myself imagining Ben Montag's outrage (...but I touch myself imagining Jim Gorham's fury).

Feet to Forearm

I scrolled down on a page of click bait. Saw this effect of turning veiny feet into gnarly forearms.
The article was "Most Obese States"
Oklahoma was number 6. About exactly a third.
It would be higher if we didn't have so many Meth heads.
Arkansas- Ronnie's home state- home to my Mom and Dad = #1

Bat-Hulk 1966 - Brave and Bold #68

I should have googled "Bat-Hulk" earlier!
Guess there are no new ideas under the sun. And now that I see it, I remember this issue. Its probably been lurking in the back of my mind all along.

Bat Hulk Returns

The ultimate goal is a digital painting.
But I want the pencil drawing to be good enough to make a few bucks at a con.
Quite a way to go. Don't like any thing about the cape yet. I'll have to steal a good cape from somewhere.

I'll try and finish the pencils. Mostly background.
Then on to color.
So- I re discovered this while I was looking up stuff I knew I had researched. The sign lettering specifically. I could spit looking how much better the whole project would have been just light boxing this file.
But this is what I got. I'll digitally alter it a bunch. Tilt the car. Get some life back into it.
edit- I touched this up. Got rid of some trashy residue and made some level edits.
It will be the print I make of the pencil art.
I've started the gray value work for the painting but I'm giving it a break for a couple of days. Been looking at it too long.

Eric Haven book. Birthday Present from Marty

The cartoonist that does Bed Man.
Which is included in this book.
In fact, all the online stuff is in the book.
My new favorite is Race Murdock.

Thanks Marty. Love this work.

WIP for a friend

Doing a kind of make a wish type of project at the request of a friend.
Needs several more cavemen and will eventually be color.
I have a cold. Every caveman represents at least 3 kleenex full of snot.
Not to mention the occasional nose bleed.
I'll get the grayscale all done and onto the color.

process for rpg freelance

Stalled on drawing by working my 2 day work week for Avis. I'll be glad when that routine is all over with. Soon.

This is me becoming unstuck. Making the skeletal figure a very worked out part of the rough. Now my other two figures need to belong in the picture.
It all seems do-able now.
Now for the middle figure.
I have to be careful that I don't crowd her.
Added the trouble of early scan to show how I often draw hands first as I create a character. Posing the body and arms to fit the hands will be pretty easy.
Parts only I can see clearly.
I'll light table the big spots, have this rough in front of me and clean it up.
I overdo it don't I?
Someone missed out not hiring all this nervous creative energy.
The well fed thread.
I'll finish off with the color after i get the grayscale painting done.
Done.
This helped me a lot. An Otis instructor named Izzy has a blog about digital painting.
I used his key guide to control what I used on the grayscale painting. I used the dark key shown. I think it looks more plausible than my usual color work.

New Studio set up

Been going through and cleaning up a lot of the Back room. Dad wants to clear out the storage by the end of the month and I've taken over the back room where Mom had hung out in. So converting it to my work area.....long process and haven't had access to much of my stuff in the past year. Soon I will getting the creative juices flowing.

Big big news!

Hey folks!  I have some big news for you… I’ve taken a job in Hamburg, Germany!  It’s a pretty exciting Art Directing gig with a mobile game company called Goodgame.  I’ll be working with 3 different teams on some unannounced projects.  Sue and Tommy will be staying behind for this school year and will then join me there next summer.
Sadly, I won’t be attending ECCC this year, but I hope to be doing loads of drawing and painting while I’m on my own, so I’ll have loads to share here on the blog.
It’s exciting and terrifying, but it should be an amazing experience… Sue and I have talked about living in Europe for a long time… we just didn't expect it to come along quite so soon. Life is full of surprises.
At any rate, I start on Oct. 1… wish me luck!

Horses for Courses

(Pushed this back to keep Rick's big news at the top of the page)
Some of my work for this animal drawing class:

I am doing the lecture via Power Point (actually Keynote, Apple's much-easier PPoint alternative), and it's working pretty dang well. We head out for our first field trip this coming Saturday--a horse show, the kind where the riders get dressed up and force their beasts to jump things. As prep, I spent part of class showing videos of equine showjumping that Blair found for me--and having the class attempt to sketch from them. Here's my demo:
Should be exciting!

A New Version of This One

I posted these a while back. I've since added several drawings and edited others.

For the past few weeks I've been digging back into old work and re-doing a lot of it. Much easier to see needed corrections after a year or two has gone by.

Saw Barry Lyndon for the 1st time

I think it is the only Kubrick movie I hadn't seen. Saw Marty did sketches from the TCM showing a couple of nights ago.
This is me doodling during it.
It's always been about the 3 hour length. I didn't think I'd like 3 hours of what I was mentally classifying a costume drama.
Loved every minute of it.
Freelance WIP
Yes, I know. The rough is better.
The size requirements pushed me around too much.

No rough prelim on this just started and erased and corrected as I went.
This is the final, the blue. I turned in the red and I got a note that it didn't work.
Blue is better.

Final rough.
I'll finish this tomorrow and then start on that Bat-Hulk
Color some time today.
Bah.

Got an extra commision. Started this digitally and just smudged it, stayed indefinite. The pencil sketch will probably be unrecognizable compared to this rough.
Kinda fun though. Something i want to develop.
