Maintenance

New job. Looks like a good one.
I'm maintenance, jack of all trades, shuttle driver, on call guy in khakis at the Residence Inn here in Oklahoma City.
My creative background was a mysterious big plus for the job.
And it's full time, nice regular 5 days a week schedule.
The main thing they want is an even temperament in dealing with residents.
Billy club in the pocket only to be used for the Gorham types.
I feel focused.
We'll see how long that lasts.

Are there any elevators that might need fixing?

If any of the residents get unruly, be prepared to apply the patented Ellis-Goodson-Jiu-Jitsu-Rear-Naked-Choke.

Quick shove, step over and interlace a leg, shoulder roll into an ankle lock.
Just to be flashy.

There's a hobo jungle nearby.
I expect an action packed existence.

Tomorrow at 9AM central, I get my first taste of Hotel maintenance.

Knowing there is no inventory and stocking and a reasonable amount of controlled encounters with the public makes it much better than Home Depot.

I will drive a shuttle van at times, making it a hybrid of the Avis Job.

Creatively, I've decided to do a script that merges and mashes up my five greatest unfinished ideas and do the undone strips in my life that way. Starting now.

El!

Congrats on the new gig. It sounds good. And may yr premonition that it will offer up a steady stream of "inspiration" come true--in the best way!

Took a guy to the airport. Picked a woman and her baby up from Walmart. Tips were incurred as the van driver. Fixed a vacuum cleaner, installing a new motor in it. Jumper cabled a house service woman's car. Changed a couple of light bulbs. Reattached some droopy building siding. Reset a garbage disposal. Fixed a toilet tank valve and flapper. Picked up a little trash. And did it all in a very lazy leisurely pace. Around great friendly people. It's a very good job. I feel lucky to be shed of Home Depot and well treated by the new gig.

At Avis, I drove all new cars and vans. At this Residence Inn , we drive a Van that dates back to Blue Sky days. 1993 I was told. Got a lot of play in the old buggy. It's fun though. We only travel in a 3 mile radius around the Hotel. Airport is slightly farther but is a straight shot down a 4 lane street next to the hotel. That straight shot to the airport is why there are so many hotels in the area.
Froze my butt off today. Way under dressed for a gig that keeps you outdoors a lot. Won't happen again.

Sounds like a good job. A variety of duties, the challenge of fixing things, interesting enough to not get boring, but not so taxing that you can't do your creative stuff after work.

The work today was like drinking a beer in your living room. Just that hard.

I think a big part of the reason I like it as much as I do is the Con effect. I've been to all thos San Diego ComicCon's , Miscellaneous industry cons, and one of the things I always enjoyed was the hotel experience. The orderliness, the temporary ownership of a big, free to roam space.

Something of a distraction was meeting an officer tenant that is transitioning into Tinker as new command. Really nice guy. And he started talking up DOD jobs out at Tinker. I may have to accidentally run into him again.

Ellis, I love these updates. Really, really glad to hear it's going good!

Thanks Marty.

It's snow shovel day today. And drive the 20 year old van in the snow day. Action adventure.

2:30 till 11:00 PM. This is to be my primary shift most times. With very little supervision for most of it.
Just me.

It pays to step back into traditional job search mode. I got this job by looking in the classifieds of the paper vs all my usual internet application stuff.

I'll think about this as I shovel snow today. Makes you want to go for a swim

Thanks Beata.

This is the new commander at Tinker AFB I need to get friendly with, staying at my Residence Inn. I think I'll do a caricature of him

Had fun on Super Bowl Sunday. Stayed busy shoveling snow off staircases. Then had complete privacy for the last 4 hours of my shift. It may become my peak creative hours. Maybe I don't want a job at Tinker. Probably pay the same and be short lived. They act like I'm someone they want happt at the Hotel job.

I am also glad that you've got a job that suits you well, Ellis. I will post a little update too ... maybe tomorrow. I am staying up to play the latest build of our "arcade" game that Dave Dentt has just posted a couple of hours ago. I'll also update that set of projects.

What a "Tuesday Tease" I am ...

Thanks Tom. I want to hear about what you and Dave Dentt are doing game-wise
