I've got my Christmas Wish List narrowed down to three things, all from the Hammacher Schlemmer catalogue, and I can't decide which one to ask for from Patty. The Robbie the Robot is the least expensive, but it's mostly made for display and would take up a lot of room in the house. The Batmobile seems really appropriate for me, and I would probably get the most use out of it, but it costs the most. The Killer Whale Submarine might be the best choice because it's the coolest of all, and at $90,000 is priced relatively modestly. Whatever I choose, if any of you TAGsters have been wondering what to buy me, you can chip in for one of the other remaining two.

I'd say go budget and have that Robbie patrolling the grounds at night. Hack it to get rid of that Asimov rule.
The Robby doesn't move. If you've seen one at any of the conventions. It's a Fred Barton Robby. Yeah, told myself if I was to ever win the lotto. I'd get one of those for sure. Bob Kinoshita was a genius. Even his B-9 from Lost in Space set the standard for robots to come.
He was also responsible for Tobor the Great too.
Personally I'd go for Robbie, but I think the Batmobile suits you better. Does it come with a costume? You'd rock a 60's Batman suit.
I'm leaning towards the Batmobile now too. Reading the description of the submarine, it sounds like it can't dive deeper than five feet because it needs the engine breathing tube to stay above the surface. But still, the breaching capability is unique. Can you imagine the reaction from swimmers and surfers as you cruise that thing along the shoreline near them?
The rear-facing propane tank that simulates the afterburner effect would be kind of dangerous for anyone parked or standing behind you. Maybe you have to be moving fast to activate it.
If the Namu sub would work as pictured, maybe. Probably have a lot of license issues.
Now that I know Robbie doesn't move or kill, I'd say go with the Batmobile.
If there were a good "Kato" costume I might actually be willing to wear that to a Con. Ellis and I could go as "Old, Retired Green Hornet and Kato".
But we would have to buy a "Black Beauty" to drive up in.
I would pay good money to see you and Ellis cosplay.
Wait, that didn't sound right, did it?
I only learned the term "cosplay" in the last couple of years. What a horrible name for it. It REALLY makes it sound like something perverted.
Well the Japanese like to truncate names. But yeah Cosplay (Costume play) always sounded strange to me too.
I have never been tempted to dress up for the con except as maybe The Sprit. A nice suit, fedora and opera mask and gloves. That's the Green Hornet as well. So I'm willing. What is Kato? He's a Limo chauffeur uniform and an opera mask.
The gas gun might be a potential prop.
Tom, you are tweaking our noses with this!
Clearly the Batmobile is the coolest, but you are a man who likes to fly under the radar, so I can't see you driving that (tho' you would look great in the costume--not just 'cuz y're fit, but b'cuz you'd project that same sort of laconic intensity from under the mask that Adam West was famous for).
So it's got to be Robbie. Just hire someone to climb inside the thing and operate during normal business hours (a companion for your retirement).
