So this sketch will become a painting? Very good. this might be what a good modeler can use, but I bet most advice on the type of pieces to create would be to show some attitude. Don't just solve the look of the character. Show some action. Leaning, attacking, blowing bubbles. Something extra that I know you're good at anyway.

Idea, and I should be doing it too, the moment you get a happy scan on a piece like this, 300 dpi or thereabouts, sell the original on ebay. OR, have the Asian Goddess make an online store for your originals.
If you squint when you look at this, that wicked blade becomes an alien wang.

Yeah, I was doing a straightforward 'here's a monster' thing I've seen in many concept art designs but it probably would behoove me to show more 'character' in the character! At least I didn't 'Ranjo' it up too much, if you know what I mean. That would have ruined it. Just ruined it.
I dig it, Scott. Obviously you have great talent and you've got a lot of sophisticated elements at work in drawing. Shows deep skills.
My only thought is maybe it reads just a little "piece-y?" (This is one of my biggest 'bete noirs', BTW); maybe in a final pass you could do a little more tonal unifying? Right now there are lots of darks and lights popping around...Fer instance, the negative shape inbetween body and far arm was hard to read for me--in painting terms I'd think of 'glazing' the midriff of the torso and the far arm into a single value/tone--I see you're doing that between far arm and leg, but it doesn't seem quite as locked into overall value scheme of drawing as your other pieces on the website.
Please flame Ellis in my stead....
--And Scott, I agree--don't "Ranjo it" too much--at least, not without proper lubrication!
