Thanks for all the ideas. I took my reference and deleted out the largest midtone. Then I printed the result on gray paper and used my oil pastels to put back in the highlights and darken the darks. I scanned that image back in and then blurred and curved and gamma'd and added grain back into the image.

These are going to add just the right amount of creepiness to the Café, Ben!
ReplyDeleteRock was asking me again if I can send him any artwork from you guys, to use on the badges. How about giving him a repeating wallpaper pattern with these masks (fading at the bottom to allow for the names)? I'm sure he'd also appreciate a quick/easy variation or two, if you think it's appropriate. Right now he doesn't have much.
