ReplyDeleteI read all the Demon stuff a couple of years ago. Fun, inventive stuff... and by his own admission the 'Weird Adventure' (horror tinged hero comics) wasn't really his thing. Who else would have the gall to invent a character named Baron Von Evilstien?
ReplyDeleteJack Kirby that's who. He came up with ALL kinds of crazy things.....his drawing board was endless. I known a few who just DON'T like Kirby and I've never understood that.

ReplyDeleteYes, I can see that. Dan Turpin's Wikipedia entry says that in the animated series he was modeled on Kirby.
ReplyDeleteFrazetta was eleven years younger than Kirby so I guess age is a factor in their fight, and whether it was bare fists or armed combat. Let's say they fought bare-knuckles in 1968. Frazetta is 40 and Kirby is 51. The paperback version of "Conan the Adventurer" has just been published. Kirby is at Marvel and at his artistic peak. Sounds like a Brush Pen Breakfast subject to me.
