  1. I recognize Sergio, Kirby, Roth. Who's the 4th guy in the lower right corner?

  2. One of those young guys. They all look alike you know.

  3. Frank Miller? He's had work. Or the nose is being held at a flattering angle

  4. That's not Frank Miller, is it? It must be an old photo then if it is.

  8. Like I said those young guys all look alike. Oops, Buncake is an old geezer now so the photo is correct.

  9. Cathy Gieswhite? Olivia?! Masters??!!

Were they so hard pressed to find worthy females in the field that those are the only ones they can come up with? Why not Lynn Johnson... at least she can DRAW! Or how about Jill Thompson... not so well known, but a super talented artist and writer.

I'm sure there are others that I'm not thinking of... is there anyone else out who can think of more worth female artists/cartoonists/illustrators who ought to be highlighted on the first page of this book?

  10. I've been a fan of Lynda Barry for a long time. I don't know how many people know her, but she used to do "Ernie Pook's Comeek" in the Reader every week. She's done a lot of stuff over the years. Here's a web site with a bunch of her work and also a link to her Wikipedia biography. Anyone else here familiar with her?

  12. Here's a woman who cartoons for the New Yorker. Scroll down and note her book: "The New Yorker’s Greatest Women Cartoonists and Their Cartoons." Could be an interesting read.

  13. Yes, Linda Medley has come to mind since my original post, as did Terryl Whitlatch, who is a phenomenal draftsman (draftswoman?) and a remarkable imagination.

  14. I thumbed through this book at Barnes and Noble the other day. Jill Thompson is in there, so they do have some female artists in there.

I believe Marie Severin is also in the book as well. She's an institution as is her husband, John.

And even though she's not an artist (that I know of), Weezie Simonson is in there along with Walt.

  15. Yes, Severin and Simonson both came to mind to me as well.... I'm glad they have some decent females in there... it's just a shame that the 2 women they name of the first page are not of the same calaber, OMHO.

  17. All I know is I look a damned sight better than that Kirby bastard. I TOLD them I wanted an exclusive cover. Did they listen? No. Will they have to listen to my lawyers now? Yes.

  18. Oh yeah, I think Lynn Johnston in in there, now that I think about it. Not sure. It's a good book, overall. I recall not being familiar with a few of the artists profiled, but generally speaking seemed like a fairly good cross-section. It's an excellent coffee table book.
