Horses for Courses

(Pushed this back to keep Rick's big news at the top of the page)
Some of my work for this animal drawing class:

I am doing the lecture via Power Point (actually Keynote, Apple's much-easier PPoint alternative), and it's working pretty dang well. We head out for our first field trip this coming Saturday--a horse show, the kind where the riders get dressed up and force their beasts to jump things. As prep, I spent part of class showing videos of equine showjumping that Blair found for me--and having the class attempt to sketch from them. Here's my demo:
Should be exciting!

  3. Such great instructional drawings Marty. I hope you are saving them all and planning on putting them into a book!

Drawing horses from a movie, or even harder yet, from life. No pause or rewind button on life. So difficult, but such a good test of one's anatomical knowledge.

  4. This is the kind of stuff you don't see as much today, even though there's been a renaissance in structural drawing - if you can call it that. I love these kinds of Da Vinci 'how things work' studies. They are often far more interesting and alive than the finished products, which lose that attractive spark. Beautiful!
