Yeah, shut up Stan

I did some edits in photoshop. One of the main things that happens with an "enhance " like this, you realize that amberlith overlays invited careless color work.

It's hard to believe that Stan Lee would pass up an opportunity to add his own dialog... must have been a tight deadline.

I got this scan from illustrationart blogspot. Click the headline if you want to see some other great work. I've spent the past two hours going through all of his posts.
David Apatoff doing worthwhile work culling great illustration.

I remember that page very clearly way back when. What a revolutionary concept it seemed to represent. Gosh, a whole page of the characters just punching each other!

I sent that specific link off to Gorham last night.
Yes, I don't think he can be forgiven the casual assessment of "bad" for either artist.
Eisner and Wood were involved in cranking it out. His favorites like Drucker and Walt Kelly and Frazetta, did short form work that paid more and allowed time for the lovely draftsmanship Apatoff likes.

I think on "Shuteth Up" , Shuteth should have 2 ts.

Shutteth.

I would pronounce shuteth, "chute-eth."

Web publishing is the newsprint of the 21st Century.

Or maybe it's the Gutenberg press of the 21st century, or maybe even the wood block printing of the 21st century.

This Kirby page is incredible. What a knock out. I'd love to blow every single panel up to 8x4 and cover my walls with them in sequence.

ANd Ellis, I disagree with you about the "sloppy" color being a negative--it's like motion blur! I think it looks magical!! I hate how new comics lack that great ben-day texture.

But then, I'm a reactionary.

And TOM--not just punching each other, but engaging in a visually mesmerizing, totally believable yet hyper-complex choreography--OF DEATH!!

Go, Cap, go!
